The MV Shemara was built in 1938 as a luxurious private yacht for Bernard Docker, a prominent Midlands businessman known for his flair and wealth. During World War II, Shemara was requisitioned by the Royal Navy and served as an armed patrol vessel. After the war, Docker and his wife, Norah Docker, used the yacht for lavish entertaining, symbolising their extravagant lifestyle and influence. Following their era, the yacht changed hands and declined before a major 21st-century restoration restored her to former glory as a historic luxury vessel.
