A collection of piano quartets known as Beethoven's hidden masterpieces! This album contains three pieces from Piano Quartet WoO.36, known as Beethoven's hidden masterpieces, and Piano Quintet in E-flat major, an arrangement from Quintet for Piano and Winds. The three pieces of the Piano Quartet WoO.36 were composed in 1785, when Beethoven was 15 years old, and published nearly 40 years later, without work numbers. It is an excellent work with a strong influence of Mozart and Haydn, but with the personality of the later Beethoven shining through. The C major is also known to be strongly related to the Piano Sonatas No. 1 and No. 3. The performance by the Hanover Piano Trio with Konstantin Zerheim is a brilliant one, bringing out the very youthful and fresh charm of the work, while at the same time revealing the brilliance of the young genius. The contents of this CD are sufficient to understand the true value of Beethoven's piano quartets, including Op.16a, which are not recorded very often. Tobu Land System
