Carbon fiber hoods are significantly lighter than OEM steel, which changes how latch pressure distributes across the hood hinge. Hood pins provide positive retention at the front edge and prevent hood flutter during highway driving. They're essential for safe operation with this panel.

Does this hood work with my OEM latch and hinges?

Yes. The AF-5 design maintains OEM mounting points at the hinges. Your factory latch will function normally. Verify your OEM latch is in good condition before installation — a worn latch combined with the reduced weight of carbon fiber may not hold as securely without hood pins as reinforcement.

What prep work should I do before installing the new hood?

Inspect the OEM hinges for wear and lubricate all pivot points. Clean the mounting surfaces where the new panel contacts the hinges. If you plan to paint, sand and prep the surface before applying your chosen finish. The clear coat is factory-applied, but custom colors or protective clear layers can be added afterward.
