The Frozone Pocillopora (Pocillopora damicornis or similar species) is a highly attractive and distinctive collector strain of Small Polyp Stony (SPS) coral. Pocillopora, commonly known as "Cauliflower Corals" or "Bush Corals," are highly prized for their hardiness, rapid growth, and knobby, thicket-forming structure.
This specific strain is named "Frozone" for its cool, icy coloration. It typically features a base tissue that ranges from pale pink or light lavender which is dramatically contrasted by intense, bright electric blue or icy blue growth tips (axials) and polyps. The blue fluorescence of the tips makes the coral glow brilliantly under actinic (blue) lighting, resembling frozen ice.
The Frozone Pocillopora grows in a dense, branching, and columnar morphology, forming thick, knobby bushes. It is considered an Easy to Moderate care SPS coral. It is one of the most forgiving SPS corals, often used to test new SPS systems. It requires consistent water chemistry, high light, and strong, chaotic water flow to maintain its dense structure and brilliant tip coloration.
