Why upgrade your intake pipe: 

The factory intake pipe is made from rubber that often perishes and splits. A split after the air filter can be detrimental to your turbo and engine because it allows contaminants in by bypassing the air filter. This can destroy your turbo and in serious cases your engine. 

Upgrading to an aluminium intake pipe removes the risk of damage to your turbo and engine as well as improves the air flow into your turbo by having a smoother internal surface.
