This painting has now been identified as George williams Kenworthy According to the Whitehaven News of 26 October 1905 a Portrait of Mr G.W. Kenworthy was on show at the Municipal Art Exhibition in Whitehaven. It was shown again in an exhibition for J.D. Kenworthy's 90th birthday in 1948. It is described as coming from the Masonic Hall, College Street. Many thanks to David Kenworthy for providing with this information
In overall excellent condition having been in part, sympathetically restored, the painting is ready to hang.

John Dalzell Kenworthy (1859–1954)
One of the most outstanding artistic personalities of the Whitehaven area in the 50 years centered on the turn of the twentieth century. An associate of the Royal Cambrian Academy, he also exhibited at the Royal Academy, and the municipal galleries at Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool. Painting in both oils and watercolours, he was particularly well known in France and Scotland.
