PLEASE Leave This One by Wolfgang Tillmans is a signed limited edition C-print from 2003, numbered 91 from an edition of 100. The photograph shows a single apple on a branch in an urban garden, a small handwritten note tied to it reading "please leave this one" — a quiet human plea addressed to no one in particular, or perhaps everyone.

The image was made in the year of Tillmans's major Tate Britain retrospective, If One Thing Matters, Everything Matters, and the note could serve as a gloss on that exhibition's title: a single piece of fruit, a single act of handwriting, charged with enough meaning to stop you. Printed on Fujicolor paper, the work is characteristic of Tillmans's ability to find significance in the incidental and the unguarded.
