Though its presence doesn't come across in photos well, I was completely charmed by this small landscape when I found it yesterday in Vermont (and it seems quite likely it is a river and mountains in Vermont depicted)--super quiet, and pretty subtle, but to me like a little jewel. Its scale amplifies its sense of preciousness, and I think there is nothing better than oil paintings done on wood. With three perfectly placed rocks in the foreground, which have the effect of putting us right there. 

Late-ish 19th century I would guess and surely somewhat darker for the years on it, which I personally like. 6" x 3 3/4" and in good, uncleaned condition.
