I found this in Pennsylvania earlier this summer--such an excellent looking object! It is an brass cork borer, early-mid 20th century, made for use by labs and apothecaries to bore holes in cork for plugging bottles and vials. There are 15 numbered borers of progressive sizers, one fitting inside the next, and pulling apart as needed. The borers are graduated every 1/16”, the smallest will cut a 1/8” hole and the largest cut a 13/16” hole.
8 3/4" l x 2 3/4" widest x 7/8" d. Borers labeled 1-15, progressively. General wear, including a bit of spotting to the surface of the brass here and there, and with a few of the borers requiring some force to pull out.
