Majestic Crimson and Gold Persian Rug 1200 ReedsAt a glance: Majestic Crimson Gold quotes the Golestan Palace ceremonial throne register of late Qajar Tehran (c. 18501900) an imperial commission visual language of deep crimson grounds, gold thread illumination borrowed from royal book binding, and a single dominant medallion built for processional viewing. For formal rooms used as ceremony, not throughput. Not a machine washable rug. Golestan throne register, Tehran late Qajar, restated in 1200

Golestan-throne register, Tehran late-Qajar, restated in 1200 Reeds

The late-Qajar Tehran court (c. 1850–1900) commissioned a specific category of carpet for the audience halls of the Golestan Palace and adjacent reception rooms: deep crimson ground, gold-thread illumination at the medallion and corners, palmette and lotus motifs lifted from royal book-binding manuscripts of the same period, and a composition deliberately built for processional viewing — the eye reads the medallion first from a distance, the corners on approach, the field detail only at conversation range. These were ceremonial pieces. They were not for circulation.

This 1200 Reeds machine-woven piece quotes that register. The crimson and gold work, the centered medallion-and-corner architecture, the manuscript-illumination palette — all of it is design-language reference. It is not a Qajar court rug, not Tehran, not hand-knotted. What carries is the imperial-commission visual logic.

How it feels in a room

Ceremonial. The crimson ground reads dense under any light, and the gold illumination catches warm incandescent in a way that flatters portrait frames, gilt mirrors, and dark furniture. Best for rooms that exist for occasion rather than everyday traffic — formal dining, formal living, a reception foyer, the room where you receive guests but do not park groceries. Under cool LED the gold reads paler and the field flattens; this is unambiguously a warm-light rug.

Construction
1200 Reeds machine-woven polypropylene
Density (شانه shaneh / تراکم tarakom)
1200 reed-count, dense imperial weave
Field
Deep crimson ground; gold-thread-style illumination at medallion and spandrels
Composition
Centered medallion-and-corner, processional-viewing axis
Heritage register
Golestan ceremonial-throne (Tehran, late-Qajar c. 1850–1900)
Care
Not a machine-washable rug. Treat as ceremonial-room flooring. Vacuum monthly in low-traffic rooms; the dense imperial weave is forgiving of occasional use. Blot any spill promptly with a clean dry cloth — never agitate the pile. Professional clean every 24–30 months for formal rooms.

Available sizes

3×6, 4×6, 5×7.5, 5×8, 8×10, 8×11, 10×13. See variant selector for current pricing and stock.

Designer styling

Pairs with dark mahogany, gilt-framed art, brass fixtures, oxblood or claret leather, and damask or velvet upholstery. Anchors a formal dining room or formal living room. Works against deep-green or deep-blue painted walls where the crimson does not compete. Avoid pairing with strong patterned wallpaper — the medallion needs the wall as backdrop, not as rival.

Best for / Skip if

Best for: formal living rooms, formal dining, reception foyers, traditionalist interiors, owners who keep one room for ceremony rather than circulation.
Skip if: you want an everyday family-room rug (the crimson is too dominant for casual use), you work in a cool-modernist palette, or your room sees heavy daily traffic with food and pets. This is not a casual rug.

About 1200 Reeds construction: شانه (shaneh) refers to reed-count density — the warp threads per unit width that determine surface tessellation. تراکم (tarakom) refers to knot/weft density. See our complete guide to reed-count density.
