How to Grow

Sow in October–November for the biggest earliest plants — overwinter in a cold frame or unheated greenhouse. Or sow January–April indoors for a reliable summer display, planting out once frosts have passed. Always use deep root trainer pots or toilet roll tubes — Sweet Peas have long roots and need the space to develop properly.

Plant in a sunny spot with rich fertile soil; dig in plenty of manure before planting. Pinch out the growing tip at 3–4 pairs of leaves to encourage bushy side shoots. Tie stems in regularly as they climb. Once flowering begins, pick every single day without exception — a single seed pod allowed to form will stop the whole plant blooming.
