In the Ayurvedic tradition there are seven chakras or wheels of energy distributed along an axis throughout the body. These nodes correspond to nerve centers and major organs and can become blocked or stagnant due to emotional or spiritual challenges specific to each location. Anja, also known as the third eye chakra, is the sixth chakra of the subtle anatomy and is located directly behind the center of the forehead. It is associated with the pituitary gland, lower part of the brain, head and eyes. An unblocked, healthy third eye chakra manifests as intuition, inner knowledge, clairvoyance, telepathy, lucidity, and imagination. Indications of a blocked third eye chakra include procrastination, not trusting one’s inner voice, panic, apprehension, confusion, depression, and feeling out of touch with the world and the self.
