This is a spectacular gilt wood frame with a rounded top featuring a large mask of the sun, or the sun God Apollo, crowned with three feathers. Beautiful carved scrolling flowers and feather motifs over extremely intricate cross hatching. We believe this frame to be 18th Century, however we cannot guarantee the date. It features all the hallmarks of Louis XV style.
It would look spectacular as a mirror.
Interior dimensions of the frame are 21.75" by 23" high (to the horizontal edge).
The mask at the top has to a depth of about 4".
This piece came from the home of a prominent Canadian collector.
