Safety Notice: Camera-Only Observations

Since the calcium emission line at 394 nm is in the near UV, this filter is for camera use only. Warning: Never use this filter for direct visual observation, as harmful UV radiation can damage the eye.

Optimal Camera and Telescope Pairing

The Baader Calcium GEN-II Filter performs best with monochrome cameras and mirror telescopes. While refractors with fast f/ratios may not be optimized for this part of the spectrum, they can still yield excellent results. Note that unmodified DSLRs may require extended exposure times.

Compatible Solar Filters and Accessories

All calcium filters need an additional solar filter. The Baader GEN-II package includes a sheet of AstroSolar Photo Film OD 3.8 (20×30 cm), so you can build a solar filter without additional purchases. Options like the BDSF Baader Digital Solar Filter OD 3.8 and Herschel prisms are also compatible.

Upgraded from K-Line Filter

The Calcium GEN-II Filter replaces the older K-Line Filter, offering improved quality with a narrower half-bandwidth of 5 nm. A single filter is now sufficient, eliminating the need for stacked filters and making it easier to use in filter wheels.
