I've got a special weakness for paintings of apples, especially ones that feel as much like portraits as still lives, and think this antique watercolor is really a lovely one. Crisp and soft and bright, just like an apple, and I love how the artist so carefully positioned the apples such that all of the stems would point exactly the same way. Late 19th/early 20th c. I believe, and in a terrific antique dark red painted frame.
Framed, as found: 15 5/8" x 12 1/2". Sight: 11 3/8" x 8 7/16". All in good condition, with a bit of light foxing/spotting visible ob the pale blue ground at upper right.
