Xiao Qing Gan Pu-erh (小青柑普洱)

Xiao Qing Gan Pu-erh (小青柑普洱, Xiǎo Qīng Gān Pǔ’ěr) is a unique citrus-infused Pu-erh tea made by stuffing Ripe Pu-erh (熟普洱, Shú Pǔ’ěr) into small, unripe green tangerines (青柑, Qīng Gān) from Xinhui, Guangdong Province. The combination of earthy, smooth Pu-erh and the refreshing citrus peel creates a sweet, fruity, and slightly tangy flavor profile.

The tea ages well, with the tangerine peel gradually infusing its essential oils into the Pu-erh, enhancing its depth and richness over time.

Characteristics of Xiao Qing Gan Pu-erh

• Appearance: Small, round green tangerines filled with dark Pu-erh tea leaves.
• Aroma: Earthy, citrusy, with hints of dried fruit and honey.
• Tea Liquor: Deep red to dark amber.
• Taste:

Brewing Instructions

Gongfu Style (Traditional Method for Full Flavor)

1. Teaware: Yixing clay teapot or gaiwan (100-150ml).
2. Tea Amount: One whole Xiao Qing Gan (or break it into pieces for a milder brew).
3. Water Temperature: 95-100°C (203-212°F).
4. Steeping Times:
   • Rinse: Quick rinse with hot water (5 seconds), then discard.
   • 1st infusion: 10-15 seconds (light citrus notes emerge).
   • 2nd-5th infusions: 15-20 seconds (rich, well-balanced flavor).
   • 6th+ infusions: Increase by 5-10 seconds each time.

Western Brewing (Easier & Milder Flavor)

1. Teapot or Mug: Use a 250-500ml teapot or infuser mug.
2. Tea Amount: One whole Xiao Qing Gan or a few broken pieces.
3. Water Temperature: 95-100°C (203-212°F).
4. Steeping Time:
   • 1st infusion: 2-3 minutes.
   • 2nd infusion: 3-4 minutes.
   • 3rd infusion: 4-5 minutes.
