Harvested in Ukraine, these organic dried elderberries (Sambucus Nigra)grow from bushy shrubs. Their clusters of white flowers mature to purple-black berry like fruits.
The berries can have a tart, bitter or tangy taste. Elderberry is ripest when it is dark purple-black. Elderberries must be cooked before consuming.
High in vitamin C, rich in antioxidants, and well known to help prevent and alleviate cold and flu symptoms, these dried berries can be used to make tea, jellies, syrups, and more.
For tea, add a spoonful to a tea bag, heat water to 195 ° or to a boil. Steep tea bag in water for 5 minutes, add honey or natural sweetener if desired.
