About Yamato Indigo

Yamato Indigo makes it easy to dye any natural material a rich 'Japan blue.' This authentic product is made from natural indigo, plus a proprietary additive blend that's mixed right into the dye pack. That means no other chemicals to purchase and almost nothing to measure. Just open your packet of Yamato Indigo and follow the simple instructions. With just a couple of buckets and some warm water, you'll be dyeing in no time.

The powder consists of indigo plant extracts, synthetic indigo, an alkaline agent, and a reducing agent. Once mixed with water, it is instantly ready to use as a dip dye.

By dip-dyeing the same fabric multiple times and varying the dip time, you can make indigo washes from pale vintage blue to deep, near-black. By using resists or tying up your fabric, you can create patterned dye jobs, and this can also be layered over multiple dips. The possibilities are endless and quite interesting if you are a fan of blue.

The 10 gram size makes a dye vat of 2-4 liters in volume.
