I've been keeping a bit of an eye out for old lady legs calipers, of which there are a wonderful variety out there, and was delighted to find these, stamped with the name of their proud owner down one leg. I love to imagine the delight OH Whitman must have taken in using these (and what a perfect name), and that he will continue to be imagined whenever one uses, or simply looks at them, yet.

Late 19th century or so I would guess. 4 3/8" tall. 1 11/16" wide when closed, and they open to about 6" wide. Very good condition and completely usable still; the pin is tight and they adjust with pressure.
