Tea Cup Feeder

Each bird feeder is made with a preloved cup and saucer which may or may not be an original pair.  Each cup and saucer is drilled and bolted together, no glue is used.  A drain hole is also drilled to allow water to drain away on wet days.

Each is supplied with a hanging cord to allow the feeder to be attached directly to a tree.  Upcycled fork and spoon hooks are also available to buy which allows the feeder to be attached to a fence or post.

Some of the preloved cups and saucers will show signs of wear, some of the gilding may be worn and there may be crazing to the glaze.

Feeding the birds

Birds can take time to get used to a new feeder so only add a small amount of seed to the saucer unless you want a garden in a tea cup!

Birds love fat cakes and they needn’t be shop bought; you can use all sorts of kitchen scraps such as cheese and dry porridge oats. Just mix with melted lard or suet and set in the fridge overnight.

The best ratio for this recipe is one part fat to two parts dry mixture. Mix all your dry ingredients together in a bowl.

Melt some lard or suet (hard fat left from a roast is also perfect) in a pan and add the dry mix. Stir well until the fat has all been absorbed and the mixture sticks together.

Fill your tea cup bird feeder with mixture and push well into cup then leave in fridge overnight.

Hang your bird feeder out next day when the cake has set, alternatively just fill with loose bird food or peanuts which they love too.
