Since it is impossible to narrate the 500-year old story of Christianity in the Philippines in great details, our author has been very selective of the topics to be included and, in this second volume, what comes out are eleven chapters--relevant, well-researched, historically validated, and amply referenced--covering the period between 1872 and 1972.

It is in this context can we appreciate the eleven chapters that cover the period between 1872 (the Gomburza Execution) and 1972 (the Martial Law declaration), a terrible period of one hundred years disturbed by three bloody armed struggles, namely: the Philippine Revolution of 1896-1898, the Filipino-American War of 1899-1902, and the Japanese Invasion of 1942-1945.
