A vintage French holy water font handmade of copper and brass by famous French coppersmith Alain L'agorsse, circa 1970s. Oval in shape, having a hammered copper interior and simple brass cross on the lid, it's signed LagorsseAlain on the lid and vessel. This beautiful custom made holy water font was used in a private home or chapel.
There are only a handful of dinandiers or traditional brassware makers left in France, and L'agorsse is considered the last of a Dordogne dynasty of French coppersmiths. He began to learn the trade from his uncle at the age of 15 and continued training throughout France under the guidance of traditional coppersmith masters. He has won the prestigious Meilleurs Ouvriers de France or Best Craftsmen of France Award, Société Art Sciences et Lettres, and is also cited as a member of Compagnons du Devoir et du Tour de France.
