Art Farmer
Description:
Jazz trumpeter Art Farmer's 1958 debut for Contemporary Records! Until 1958, when this album was recorded, Art Farmer had not been voted "New Star" of the year by Down Beat magazine, but he had already established a reputation among musicians for his work with Lionel Hampton, Gigi Grice, and Gerry Mulligan. Although he was best known for his flugelhorn, these songs revealed that he had long displayed comparable lyricism as a trumpeter. Accompanied by a rhythm section that included his twin brother, the late Addison Farmer on bass, pianist Hank Jones, and drummer Roy Haynes, he performed five songs, including three originals (two blues) and Benny Golson's "Stablemates." Farmer felt that this was the best album he had made at that stage of his career. [Personnel] Art Farmer (tp) Hank Jones (p) Addison Farmer (b) Roy Haynes (ds)
