Origin Intermediate Oboe Reeds (formerly Magic Reed) are handmade from scratch and are a personal favorite. Made with my best performing M-MH Cane with higher densities based on real time results throughout the year. This combination helps deliver a more robust playing experience than my other intermediate reed options, and allows for a more nuanced scrape. Sorts for moderate aperture size optimizes playability for the intermediate player. Recommended for students with a private teacher and at least 2 years experience. Players with developing production systems will be capable of sounding their best on this reed.  

Construction/Scrape:

Oboe Cane:  Cane strength is medium to medium hard with a higher densities. Diameters are 10.5 and 11 with extra sort for more moderate size apertures within the batch. Gouge: Kunibert gouge @.60/.45 (small adjustments for cane density and  seasonality). Shape: Mack++ or similar.

Staple: Professional Chiarugi staple 47mm # 2. A staple of this quality is rare for an intermediate reed. Save them for future reed making or gift them to your teacher at the end of your reed's lifespan. A $5.00 retail value.

Blank Tie Length: 72 - 72.5 mm.

Finished Reed Length: @ 69.5-70 mm.

Signature American long scrape.  Customized scrape. Moderately defined tip. Heart 40-.42 in thickness.  Moderate windows, defined heart/back with catch. Moderate spine. Near to full professional level tone. Intermediate level response.

• Current First Draw Cane- Marion- 10.5-11.
• Dozens of micro adjustments prior to certification and ship. 
• Cane is hand tied on staple for mount with precision alignment not possible with machine.
• Tested on my choice of Loree or Howarth XL Oboe.
