John Rutter (1945-) is a composer from London. As a boy, he was a member of the choir at Highgate School and participated in the first recording of "War Requiem" in 1963 under the direction of Benjamin Britten. In 1981, he founded his own choir, the Cambridge Singers, and has recorded many works, including his own compositions, in an effort to promote choral music. Most of his works are related to English churches, but his "Requiem" and "Magnificat" have been well received in Japan, where they are often performed. In this album, Rutter's masterpieces are arranged for brass band version and performed by the Black Dyke Band, which is widely loved all over the world. In the famous "Pied Jesu," the solo part of the boy soprano is played by a cornet, which sheds new light on the work. Naxos Japan
