[Encore Press: Mercury Living Presence 50] Prokofiev's No. 3, which shows a wonderful harmony of earthy vitality and neoclassical sculpture, and Rachmaninoff's No. 1, which was written in his teens as a student at the Conservatory and thoroughly revised and definitive in later years. Rachmaninoff's First Piano Concerto, written as a teenager at the Conservatory of Music, was thoroughly revised in later years to obtain the definitive version, and shows his great compositional skills at their best. The album also includes works by Schumann, Mendelssohn, and the Brazilian composer Octavio Pinto. The album features Janis' masterful technique. Rubidium clock cutting.
