Nick Cave Discography Tube Map Art Print - Every Studio Album From 1979 to Wild God (2024), Every Musician Mapped

This is a hand-researched tube map art print of Nick Cave's complete studio discography, covering 25 albums from Door, Door (1979) with the Boys Next Door through to Wild God (2024) with the Bad Seeds. Every credited musician across the Boys Next Door, the Birthday Party, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Grinderman, and CARNAGE appears as a named line running through the albums they played on.

It is the most detailed visual record of the Nick Cave discography available as wall art, and one of the most considered gifts you can give a serious Nick Cave fan. I design and research every map at mikebellmaps.com, working from liner notes, verified session archives, and established music reference sources.

Warren Ellis, whose line runs through 14 albums on this map from Let Love In (1994) to Wild God (2024), is among the musicians who have endorsed this work. For the longest-running active contributor in the Nick Cave studio discography to endorse the map of that discography is the clearest signal I know of that the research is right.

What the Nick Cave Tube Map Shows

The map spans three distinct phases of Cave's recorded output, each visible as a separate section of the network.

The earliest stations cover the Boys Next Door and Birthday Party years. Door, Door (1979), The Birthday Party (1980), Prayers on Fire (1981), and Junkyard (1982) form the raw opening of the map, with Mick Harvey, Tracy Pew, Rowland S. Howard, and Phill Calvert as the core lines through those four stations.

The Bad Seeds section runs from From Her to Eternity (1984) to Wild God (2024). Mick Harvey's line covers 18 albums before ending at Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! (2008). Blixa Bargeld enters at From Her to Eternity, and his line runs through 12 albums before terminating at Nocturama (2003). Thomas Wydler joins from Kicking Against the Pricks (1986) and runs continuously to Wild God, covering 16 albums across 38 years.

Warren Ellis enters at Let Love In (1994), and his line runs to the map's current end. Martyn P. Casey appears on 14 albums from Henry's Dream (1992). Jim Sclavunos joins at Murder Ballads (1996) and continues to Wild God, covering 12 albums. Conway Savage appears on 9 albums from Henry's Dream through to Push the Sky Away (2013).

Grinderman branches off the main network for Grinderman (2007) and Grinderman 2 (2010), with Cave, Ellis, Casey, and Sclavunos as the four lines at both stations before rejoining the Bad Seeds track.

CARNAGE (2021), recorded remotely with just Cave and Ellis, is the sparsest station on the map with 2 credited musicians. Wild God (2024) brings Colin Greenwood of Radiohead in on bass alongside the returning core lines.

As a Gift for a Nick Cave Fan

The Nick Cave discography map makes a great gift because it shows a serious fan something they haven't seen before. Not an album cover they already own. Not a photograph they have seen a hundred times. The full human network behind every studio album across 45 years, in a single image that rewards close attention every time they look at it.

For a fan who has all the records, the map reveals things the records themselves do not. Who played on The Good Son, and why does it sound so different from Tender Prey? Where Blixa Bargeld's line ends and what the map looks like at that point. Why does CARNAGE have just 2 credited musicians, while Murder Ballads had 24? These are the details a serious fan will spend time with.

The map works as a birthday gift, a Christmas gift, or a considered gift for someone whose taste you know well. A1 is the format worth giving - the larger size lets the recipient read every line and label at close range, which is where the real value of the map lives.

For more on the gift angle, including who this map is for and how it compares to standard Nick Cave merchandise, read the Best Gifts for Nick Cave Fans post.

Size UK USA equivalent Orientation
A2 420 x 594mm 18 x 24 inches Landscape
A1 594 x 841mm 24 x 36 inches Landscape

A1 is the format I would recommend for this map. The density across 25 albums rewards close reading, and the larger format makes every musician line and station label legible. It is the format a serious Nick Cave fan will appreciate.

Not an algorithm - every connection on this map was made by hand, by an obsessive fan. The full story on your wall. It rewards every closer look.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a good gift for a Nick Cave fan?

It is the gift for a Nick Cave fan who already has everything. The map covers 25 studio albums and more than 100 credited musicians across 45 years - the Birthday Party years, the full Bad Seeds catalogue, Grinderman, CARNAGE, and Wild God (2024). It shows the full human network behind the music in a format you won't find anywhere else. A serious fan will find something new in it every time they look.

Does the map include the Birthday Party albums?

Yes. The map opens with Door, Door (1979) and includes all three Birthday Party records - The Birthday Party (1980), Prayers on Fire (1981), and Junkyard (1982) - before the network continues into the Bad Seeds years from 1984 onwards.

Does the map include Grinderman?

Yes. Both Grinderman (2007) and Grinderman 2 (2010) appear as stations on the map, connected to but visually distinct from the main Bad Seeds network. Cave, Ellis, Casey, and Sclavunos are the four lines at both stations.

Is the map updated to include Wild God (2024)?

Yes. Wild God is the most recent station on the map, with 11 credited musicians, including Colin Greenwood of Radiohead on bass. The map is updated as new studio albums are released.

How many musicians are on the Nick Cave map?

More than 100 credited musicians appear across the full discography. Murder Ballads (1996) is the densest station with 24 credited contributors. CARNAGE (2021) is the sparsest with 2. The longest-running lines are Mick Harvey on 18 albums, Thomas Wydler on 16, and Warren Ellis and Martyn P. Casey both on 14.

What size should I buy?

A1 (594 x 841mm / 24 x 36 inches) for a serious collector or gift to a dedicated fan - the larger format makes every line and label legible at close range. A2 (420 x 594mm / 18 x 24 inches) works well in smaller rooms or alongside other wall art. Both are available unframed or framed. US buyers: both sizes match standard frame dimensions available from most US framers.
