OST: Miles Davis
Description:
This is the soundtrack to Miles' first biopic, Miles Ahead, which will be released in the United States on April 1, 2016. The film is centered on 1979, when Miles was temporarily retired from the music world, and Don Cheadle stars, writes, and directs the film. Robert Glasper is credited as one of the musical directors. The film is attracting a great deal of attention. The soundtrack, which runs over 24 songs and 76 minutes, includes 11 of Miles' most popular numbers from 1956 to 1981 (*original recordings/edited excerpts) and 5 newly recorded songs written by Robert Glasper for the film, along with Don Cheadle's dialogue from the film. This is truly the best of Miles in the 21st century, selected by Glasper. In particular, Miles Davis, played by Don Cheadle, performed in a fictional collaboration with Glasper, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Gary Clark, Jr., Esperanza Spalding, and Antonio Sanchez, all leading artists in the current music scene. What's Long With That" (track 23) is a symbolic number that proves that the spirit of Miles is still alive and well. The actual trumpet player in the performance scene in the film is Keyon Harold, who is also known for his collaboration with D'Angelo. And the song "Gone 2015," which plays in the end titles, features rapper Pharoah Monch as a guest.
