The West Highland Way, the first long-distance hike in Scotland and one of Scotland’s official Great Trails, is a unique 96 miles/ 154km trail in rugged Scotland. The trail officially opened in 1980 and has just celebrated its 40th Anniversary! While the West Highland Way hike can be started from either end, it is normally hiked from South to North which takes you from the easier lowlands to the more challenging highlands. Therefore, the West Highland Way starting point lies at Milngavie, just outside of Glasgow, while it finishes in Fort William.
