First seen in Battlestar Galactica, the Colonial Viper Pilot Helmet became one of the most recognizable designs of late-’70s science fiction. 

Worn by the Colonial Warriors as they defended the last survivors of humanity from the relentless Cylons, its distinctive silhouette remains an enduring icon of the series.

The Original Props
Designed by Jean-Pierre Dorléac, the helmets drew inspiration from the ancient Egyptian “Nemes” headcloth, combining futuristic styling with historical influence.

Only two fully functional “hero” helmets were created for the original production, featuring working illumination powered by external battery packs. While visually striking, the lighting system was fragile and heat-prone, making these props both complex and costly for their time. Additional background and stunt helmets were produced with simplified construction and no electronics.

The Replica
Factory Entertainment’s replica is based on a digital scan of an original hero helmet, refined using extensive reference materials to faithfully recreate its original 1978 appearance.

Modern LED lighting replaces the vintage system, carefully tuned to match the soft glow of the original bulbs, with power now self-contained within the helmet. Each piece is handcrafted in fiberglass and finished with screen-accurate paint and detailing. A full fabric liner provides a clean, display-ready interior, enhancing presentation while remaining true to the spirit of the original prop.

Edition size is 200 pieces. Includes a display stand, a numbered metal plaque, plaque stand and certificate of authenticity/prop story booklet.
