About SommSelect Benchmarks

6 Bottles

For the experienced oenophile: Our sommeliers scour the marketplace, and leverage long-term relationships, for the most iron-clad investments for your growing wine cellar— red, whites, sparklers, stickies…you name it, we’ll get those shelves stocked with the best of the best!

A sommelier has two main tasks: Selecting wine and serving wine (there’s also the less-glamorous stocking/ storing component, but in this case, we’re leaving that part to you). The modus operandi for SommSelect Benchmarks is the same as that of a seasoned restaurant sommelier: The wines we choose for this pack are the kinds of wines we would want to showcase on a well-curated restaurant wine list.

2016 Champagne Guy Charlemagne, Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs2016 Champagne Guy Charlemagne, Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs "Les Coulmets"

The Charlemagne family has been a fixture in the Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger since 1892, quietly cultivating some of the most profound Chardonnay in all of Champagne. While the big houses have turned Le Mesnil into a global brand, the Charlemagnes have remained fiercely independent, bottling their own estate-grown fruit for five generations. Current proprietor Philippe Charlemagne is the steward of this legacy, farming 15 hectares of pristine, chalk-laden vineyards. His philosophy is simple: let the terroir speak. This means meticulous vineyard work, minimal intervention in the cellar, and a deep respect for the family traditions that have made them one of the most respected grower-producers in the Côte des Blancs.

2023 Guy Robin, Chablis 1er Cru “Montée de Tonnerre”2023 Guy Robin, Chablis 1er Cru 'Montee de Tonnere'

We’re honored to present a farewell from Guy Robin's 1er Cru “Montée de Tonnerre". This wine is the last of its kind, as the Robin family closes its doors to production after decades of shaping Chablis history. Marie-Ange Robin, who took the reins from her father Guy in the early 2000s, transformed the domaine into a powerhouse of terroir-driven wines, with holdings second only to William Fèvre and some of the oldest Chardonnay vines in the region.

2021 Three Sticks, Pinot Noir, Price Family Estates

2021 Three Sticks, Pinot Noir, Price Family Estates

The 2021 Three Sticks Pinot Noir from Price Family Estates is a benchmark expression of Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, crafted with precision and elegance. Sourced from the family’s historic vineyards, this wine captures the cool-climate vibrancy of the region with layers of red cherry, raspberry, and rose petal, framed by subtle spice and silky tannins. Its balance of freshness and depth makes it both immediately appealing and cellar-worthy, a hallmark of Three Sticks’ meticulous winemaking.

2012 Chateau La Lagune Haut Medoc
2012 La Lagune, Haut-Medoc, Bordeaux

The estate dates to 1587, and for over four centuries, it's been the insider's pick—the château that savvy Bordeaux collectors slyly pick off wine lists while others chase famous names at triple the price. The 2012 vintage was classic Left Bank: moderate temperatures, slow ripening, a splash of rain in September, and wines built for the long haul. At 12 years old, this bottle has hit the sweet spot—tertiary notes emerging while the fruit still sings. The blend includes 10% Petit Verdot for grip and structure.

2016 Robert Craig Spring Mountain Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
2016 Robert Craig, Cabernet Sauvignon, Spring Mountain District

Robert Craig’s mantra is high-elevation Napa Cabernet, and this bottling is no exception. Though labeled “Spring Mountain District,” it’s sourced 100% from Crowley Vineyard, one of Napa’s highest elevation sites at 2,000 feet, biodynamically farmed, and rooted in rocky volcanic soils—a formula that typically commands $150–$175 per bottle for a mountain appellation bottling.

Vinous Media’s Antonio Galloni called it “suave, silky and super-polished” back in Fall 2018. We tasted it again recently, and the polish is still there—integrated tannins, cassis, black and blue fruit, menthol, sweet tobacco, and a savory umami core. Not all mountain Cabs hold up after 5 to 7+ years. This one? It’s just hitting its stride.

2017 Siro Pacenti, Brunello di Montalcino "Vecchie Vigne"
2017 Siro Pacenti, Brunello di Montalcino  "Vecchie Vigne"

The 2017 Siro Pacenti Brunello di Montalcino Vecchie Vigne is more than a wine — it’s a statement. Ranked #57 in James Suckling’s Top 100 Italian Wines of 2020, this Brunello embodies the precision of an Italian race car: sleek, powerful, and built with uncompromising attention to detail.

Each Somm Benchmark comes with an expertly prepared booklet describing the theme and the wines in rich detail. See below for past example.
