Premium Medium Strength/Regular Density Cane. Best Balance Of Tone And Playability.

Reed Monkey Professional Oboe Reeds are handmade from scratch. Designed for players seeking high end reeds with a round tone and somewhat less resistance than other brands offered here. Made with my best working medium strength regular density oboe cane.  Diameter is 10.5-11 and is also seasonally selected in 1/4 mm increments for best results. Cane is professionally processed in shop. They are best for advanced to professional players with at least 3 years experience or  those who prefer an gentler playing experience.

Professional Grade reflects the full spectrum of function from professional to previously available Elite grade with extra nuance and an additional quality sort.  Pricing reflects relative difficulty in working with cane with this strength and density.

Construction/Scrape:

Oboe Cane:  Premium medium to medium hard oboe cane,  professionally processed in our Shop. Diameters are 10.5 and 11 based on seasonal impact on aperture size. Gouge: Kunibert gouge @ .60/.45. Shape: Mack++ or similar.

Staple: Professional Chiarugi staple 47 mm # 2.

Blank Tie Length: 72 - 72.5 mm.

Finished Reed Length: @ 69.5-70 mm.

Signature American long scrape.  Customized scrape. Moderately defined tip. Heart 42-.44 in thickness.  Moderate windows, defined heart/back with catch. Moderate spine. Full professional level tone and response.

Finishing Touches:  

• First Draw Oboe Cane- Currently our Frejus inventory (Vic or First Chair).
• Dozens of micro adjustments prior to certification and ship. 
• Cane is hand tied on staple for mount with precision alignment not possible with machine.
• Tested on my choice of Loree or Howarth XL Oboe. Let me know if you have a preference.
