Welcome to the Develop & Implement Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Organisational Policies course. This course only includes a challenge assessment designed to assess your knowledge and skills required to demonstrate competence in supporting the development, review, finalisation, implementation, storage, and ongoing amendment of organisational policies through appropriate consultation, stakeholder engagement, compliance review, and alignment with organisational vision, values, cultural responsibilities, and community context.
Developing and implementing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisational policies involves using structured policy processes that reflect community consultation, cultural considerations, organisational purpose, and legal and operational requirements. In real workplace practice, this requires workers to support policy development groups, seek expert advice, consult stakeholders, review relevant background information and board decisions, contribute to drafting processes within their role, and ensure policies are relevant, accessible, compliant, and consistent with the organisation’s vision and responsibilities. This is important because strong policy development and implementation processes support sound governance, community confidence, organisational consistency, and the ability to respond appropriately to legislative, operational, funding, and cultural requirements.
The course assessment focuses on your ability to establish a policy development group, identify required sources of expert advice, consult community and stakeholders on policy development processes, develop supporting procedures, identify legislative, operational, constitutional, and funding requirements, review previous board decisions and background information, and provide informed input into drafting policies within your role and expertise. It also evaluates your ability to check draft policies for alignment with organisational vision, purpose, and cultural considerations, check compliance with legal, constitutional, and funding requirements, provide feedback on draft policies, explain draft policies to stakeholders and obtain feedback, evaluate stakeholder feedback and propose amendments, finalise draft policies, support stakeholder agreement and board approval processes, document, store, and maintain policies securely and accessibly, implement approved policies in alignment with existing policies, inform key stakeholders, and review and amend policies in response to legislative and operational changes while maintaining organisational vision, values, cultural responsibilities, and community context.
By successfully completing this course assessment, you will have demonstrated that you can support the development and implementation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisational policies by contributing to consultation and drafting processes, checking policy relevance and compliance, incorporating stakeholder feedback, supporting approval and implementation processes, maintaining policy records appropriately, and reviewing policies to ensure they remain aligned with organisational, legal, cultural, and community requirements.
