Description:
The viol (viola da gamba) was a much-loved string instrument in France during the Baroque period. Marin Marais, who was praised as "playing like an angel," and Antoine Folclé, who was praised as "playing like the devil," were the twin peaks of virtuosity of the viol. Despite rumors of violence against his son, Forclet astonished the French royal family with his overwhelming musicality and performance ability from his childhood, and although he devoted himself to the development of the viol art, he did not publish his works in music scores during his lifetime. This collection of masterpieces, which treats the viol in every direction, is composed of five suites, but in this disc, as was sometimes the case during the Baroque period, the works of other composers are also included in three suites according to the key of the piece (these are called "Mosaic Suites" in this disc).André Lislevand, son of the lute master Rolf Lislevand (who also wrote the album commentary), brings the world of music, including that of Marais, his rival, and de Wizet, a contemporary composer of string-repellent instruments, into sharp relief with his exquisite playing. The young talents of André Lislevand, who grew up breathing the air of ancient music performance, will bring his interpretation of the works' beauty to life in close collaboration with his father, Rolf, who is also a producer and engineer. His father, Rolf, also provides full support for the album as producer and engineer. He also participates in the performance of two songs. Naxos Japan
