Elisabeth Grümmer
Description:
Elisabeth Grünmer (1911-1986) was one of the greatest singers of the 20th century, and was described by the famous Italian opera critic Lanfranco Rasponi as "a singer whose gentle, lovely voice, once heard, will never be forgotten. She made her debut in 1941 at the Aachen Opera House, and although her career was temporarily interrupted by the war, she resumed her activities as a member of the Staatsoper Berlin in 1946. She sang at the Bayreuth Festival every year until 1961, but her recordings are rare compared to her spectacular performances, and this series of broadcast recordings is a very valuable record. Digitally remastered from the original tapes in the SWR collection. Naxos Japan
