The Story

The Alpha began as a conversation with a collector in the United States.

In 2024, they acquired one of my wolf paintings without hesitation. A year later, I asked what their dream piece might be. The answer was immediate and atmospheric: a black wolf drinking from dark water, moody and powerful, with eyes that could hold your gaze.

It was exactly the painting I had been longing to create.

The commission unfolded slowly between motherhood and late night studio hours, each layer building towards the presence we had imagined. In December 2025, the final brushstrokes were laid down.

The Alpha will hang in a quiet cabin on a farm in the US, reunited with its predecessor The Loner - two spirits of the wild inhabiting the same space once more.

This is the original oil painting The Alpha by wildlife artist Kirsten Mirrey.
A true one of one, it exists as the sole expression of this moment and will never be recreated.

Painted entirely by hand in oil, the work carries the depth, texture, and tonal subtlety unique to an original piece at scale.
