Description:
A collection of works by English composer William Smethergell. He was baptized in London and served as organist at All Hallows by the Tower Church from 1770 and at St. Mary at Hill Church from 1775, both places for 50 years at the same time, and was also known as a viola He is also known to have been a viola player in the orchestra of Vauxhall Gardens, an amusement park in London. The six overtures (sometimes called "Sinfonias") are brilliant works reminiscent of Joseph Haydn's works. The first overture in particular gives the wind instruments a wide variety of opportunities to play and stand out as soloists. The other pieces are all charming and witty. Naxos Japan
