Nevil Mariner, Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra
Description:
Neville Marriner (1924-2016), a distinguished British conductor, founded and conducted the Academy Chamber Orchestra in 1959 and has conducted throughout the world, receiving his knighthood in 1985. Marriner served as principal conductor of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1983 to 1989, and is credited with continuing the tradition established by his predecessor, Celibidacke, while adding flexibility and agility. He also expanded the orchestra's repertoire to include late Romantic works by Richard Strauss and Mahler, which had not been performed during Celibidacke's time, as well as modern British and American music. This 15-disc set includes Marriner and the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra's masterful performances from 1980 to 1994. Naxos Japan
