Do you have an overlocker that you’re not yet in love with?

Using an over-locker can be daunting but during this workshop you will watch a series of demonstrations and be given lots of support to guide you towards leaving being confident using your over-locker.

Your day will generally follow this plan: The first part of the day we will cover the basics of starting to use an over-locker including familiarising yourself with the different parts, threading, stitch selection, cutting blade and finishing off, spending time getting to know a love your over-locker. 

In the afternoon you will use the skills learnt to make your own jersey skirt which will be sewn entirely on your over-locker.  

What you will need:

Your own over-locker with thread (please note we do not have any over lockers you can use. You will need to bring your own)

Essential to bring your over-locker manual (there are differences to each over-locker so the manual will help you understand your individual machine)

A sewing kit if you have one

Jersey Fabric enough as per the length of skirt you would like (available to purchase from Make with a 10% discount off when attending a workshop) Please note that jersey fabric especially is prone to a certain amount of shrinkage during washing so please wash your fabric prior to the workshop.

Anyone who is under 150cm around will need whatever length they would like to make the skirt, plus 25cm. Short is 46cm, med is 61cm and long is as long as you

For people larger than 150cm around bring enough fabric for your chosen length x 2 plus 10 cm extra on each. 

Level:

Next Stage Beginner, intermediate and advanced

You must have used a sewing machine before or been on one of our beginners sewing classes

Duration: 10.15 - 4.15pm including a 30 min lunchbreak

Please note we try to calculate how long a workshop will be and plan to finish each garment in the allocated time but this isn’t always possible. If you are unable to finish in the workshop time we will make sure you are confident to finish your garment at home.

We need a minimum of 5 people for this workshop to go ahead. If this number isn’t reached by one week before the class, we will be contacting you with an alternative date. If you are unable to re-schedule we offer a full refund.

To all the team at Make, a huge thankyou for a superb overlocker course on Sunday. Anna was a brilliant instructor and host, offering clear directions, good advice and making the whole day so relaxed, fun and informative. 

We were kept hydrated with freshly ground coffee, tea and water at all times.  The lady in the cafe (whose name I have forgotten unfortunately) makes all her own cakes and savoury muffins, soups etc.  Therefore rather than venture out, we all had lunch together and were keen to get back to sewing as quickly as possible.  But the food was delicious and fully recommended!

Throughout the day we all helped each other, worked together at times and shared useful tips. It couldn’t have been a more satisfying course, in that I came away with far more confidence in using the overlocker and all its facilities, but also very pleased with my little skirt made during the afternoon, hence learning the additional skills of working with stretch fabrics.
