About the Photoshoot

Photographing Mulagljufur Canyon felt like stepping into a fantasy world, where nature's beauty defies belief. Although this location lies close to Iceland’s famous Ring Road, reaching it was no easy feat. The trek through unmarked paths, narrow trails, and loose rocks made every step a challenge, especially with the weight of my equipment and the ever-present wind. Yet, it was all worth it when I arrived at this untouched valley.

What struck me first was the ethereal contrast between the vivid green moss and the lingering snow on the highest peaks. The snow, preserved by the altitude and proximity to Vatnajokull, Europe’s largest glacier, clings to the peaks even in summer, adding a timeless element to the scene. The lushness of the canyon, with its moss-covered cliffs and cascading waterfalls, was breathtaking, particularly during late summer when the Midnight Sun still casts its soft light on the landscape.

The challenge in photographing Mulagljufur lies in capturing its otherworldly atmosphere, where the beauty seems almost too perfect to be real. I spent hours here, losing track of time, carefully composing shots that contrast the greens of the moss with the blues and pinks of the sky. The way the sun illuminates the protruding rocks and glimmers off the river and waterfalls brought out a mythical quality in the scene. It felt like the landscape itself was telling a story, and my goal was to capture that narrative through the lens.
