The Graypants Barro Pendant Light is the result of a collaboration with Caterina Moretti of Peca design studio. Combining a ceramic base with a glass shade, the design celebrates the natural character of its materials while maintaining a refined and contemporary presence. Each pendant begins with the earth of Oaxaca, where the clay is sourced locally and transformed through traditional craft techniques.

Working with local artisan Amando Pedro, the pendants are produced using time-honoured, region-specific processes. Clay gathered from the surrounding landscape is mixed with water to create slip and poured into handmade plaster moulds. Once shaped, the pieces are fired in a wood-burning kiln that is carefully stoked for nine hours. Instead of being glazed, the ceramic surface is hand-polished with river stones, creating a smooth and tactile finish. The Natural Clay version remains in its original tone, while the Charcoal Clay finish is achieved by sealing the kiln with mud and firing the piece again so the smoke deepens the colour of the clay.

The Barro Pendant Light reflects a thoughtful balance between tradition and innovation. Inspired by nature and the expressive potential of raw materials, the design offers a sculptural yet understated presence that adapts easily to a variety of spaces. Whether suspended above a dining table, kitchen island, or arranged in a sequence over a bar, the Graypants Barro Pendant brings warmth, craftsmanship, and a strong sense of material authenticity to contemporary interiors.
