Mark Guiliana Jazz Quartet,Mark Guiliana
Description:
An unquestionable masterpiece. Mark Giuliana, the No. 1 drummer & creator of our time, releases his first jazz quartet album in 5 years on UK's Editions label. Following "Family First" (2015) and "Jersey" (2017), this is Mark Giuliana's third jazz quartet album in five years. So far, he has expressed his innovative drumming style around two projects, BEAT MUSIC on the electric music side and this quartet on the jazz side. In the process, the emphasis has been placed on composition over the years, and this album is the first time that the entire spectrum of electronic and acoustic composition has been integrated into a single, detailed work of art. The project is basically an acoustic performance, but electronic techniques are used here and there. While maintaining the traditional dry textures, many of the compositions are influenced by mindfulness, as is the case with his wife, Gretje Parlato, and have the flavor of a singer/songwriter's instrumental album. The title and idea for "The sound of listening" was taken from the book "Silence" by Vietnamese Zen monk and poet Thich Nhat Hanh, which Mark himself describes as "the inner silence necessary for serious observation of the world." Mark Juliana plays drums as well as synths and drum programming. The members are the familiar Chris Morrissey (b), Jason Rigby (ts, b-cl, fl), and Shai Maestro on piano again from the previous album Fabian Almazan, this time playing mellotron and rose as well as piano. The digital album will be released worldwide on October 7. Bonus tracks are included on the Japanese CD only.
