Adorned with a floral, hand-crafted icchin drawing and dappled with gold, Yukiko Wada’s ceramics are a work of intricate beauty, distinguished by its shapely silhouette and pearly finish.
Each of Yukiko Wada’s pieces are individually thrown, sculpted, and finished entirely by hand. Using a thin tool with a needle-like point and her own signature mixture of liquid clay and porcelain powder, Wada paints a delicate, raised, three-dimensional pattern on the platter before firing it—an elaborate, time-consuming technique known as “icchin.” The designs on the platter—a string of botanical shapes on its face, and a lacy, necklace-like chain around its base—were improvised in real time, making each platter truly one of a kind.
Each piece is individually handmade, and natural variations in color, texture, and finish are to be expected and celebrated.
