Oliver is a psychedelic and farmer artist whose only album was re-released last year to much acclaim. Earthy, bluesy, folky, electric, and experimental, Oliver is a hidden treasure of the British music world whose distinctive personality has been likened to various greats old and new, from Jack White and Kurt Weill to Beefheart and Jimi Hendrix. Now comes the surprisingly unreleased album. Oliver was a farmer and musician in rural Wales, known as a mecca of hippie culture, and was even offered a session with JJ Cale. When his only album "Standing Stone," made in 1974 with the help of his brother Chris, who worked with Syd Barrett as a BBC engineer, was reissued last year, it was described as "a cross between Jimi Hendrix and Fripp & Eno," "too early Jack White or Kurt Weill," and "a combination of Hawkwind and Jefferson Jefferson. Hawkwind, Jefferson Airplane, and Jethro Tull.This album, Stone Unturned, is a previously unreleased recording, the existence of which was revealed during the reissue process. It was recorded in 1974, the same year as the album. It is psychedelic and bluesy, almost a solo guitar performance by Oliver, but with a punch. The rough and loose playing is full of flavor and unleashes an indescribable and bizarre magic.
