Tropicália meets Cardigans? European Shibuya-kei? The long-awaited second album from the Welsh Brazilian soft rock band, whose last album was a big hit, was produced by Kerwin Ellis, a long-time fan of Brazilian music, after a casual remark from Chrissie Hynde when he was on tour in South America as a side member of The Pretenders. Their debut album, "JOIA! MAS, which means "out" in Welsh, "more" in Spanish, and "but" in Portuguese, is an extension of the previous album, recorded in Rio, Carnarvon, and London. Like the previous album, the Rio group was led by Cashin, who also produced this album.The album kicks off with the dreamy "Ar Ol Y Glaw," then moves on to "Cwcan," a Latin tune reminiscent of Joan Donato; "Cestyll Papur," a bossa with an impressive Welsh feel; "Lawr Yn Y Ddinas Fawr," a sofro with a great paya paya chorus; "Hedyn Ar Y Gwynt," a song with a dark library groove; "Hedyn Ar Y Gwynt," a song that starts with a thumping drum break and a bilimbau before moving into a laid-back samba; and "Hedyn Yn Y Ddinas Fawr," a song with an impressive library groove.
