The ABB REC670 is a high-performance Bay Control Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) within the Relion® 670 series, engineered for the protection, control, and monitoring of substation bays. It supports a wide voltage range, from medium voltage networks up to ultra-high transmission levels of 765 kV.
This device consolidates bay control, interlocking, monitoring, and backup protection functions into a single unit, enabling compact, reliable, and secure substation automation. It is suitable for standard bay arrangements or highly customized configurations, including 1 ½ breaker and mesh-corner topologies.
Bay Control: Manages local and remote operations for all switchyard apparatus, including circuit breakers, disconnectors, and earthing switches.
Interlocking: Prevents unsafe switching sequences to avoid equipment damage or operator error.
Back-up Protection: Supplements primary relays with essential protective functions.
Monitoring & Measurement: Provides precise voltage, current, and power measurements along with disturbance recording and phasor data.
Control & Interlocking
Select-before-execute operations for enhanced reliability.
Multi-bay management for complex substation arrangements.
Built-in synchrocheck and energizing check for safe breaker operation.
Integrated Protection
Current Protection: Four-step phase and earth overcurrent, directional/non-directional, thermal overload, and breaker failure.
Voltage Protection: Under- and overvoltage, residual overvoltage.
Frequency Protection: Under-frequency, over-frequency, and df/dt monitoring.
Communication & Interoperability
IEC 61850 Ed.1 & Ed.2 compliant with GOOSE messaging.
PRP and HSR redundancy over dual Ethernet ports.
Supports DNP3, IEC 60870-5-103, and Lon/SPA protocols.
Measurement Accuracy
Voltage and current at 0.2 class; power at 0.5 class.
Configurable as a PMU for synchronized phasor measurements.
