Three years after his 2019 release "RETRONYMS," which also incorporates lyrical and mellow piano solos, drone sounds, and a fusion of acoustic instruments and analog electronic sounds, he has completed his fourth studio album in total. The idea behind his latest work, "OURSELVES, AS WE ARE," is simply this: one room, one piano, one pianist/composer. And take your time. Take as impartial an approach as possible. Start with yourself, for yourself, only yourself, just improvise.This may seem like a simple concept at first glance, but a closer look is sure to reveal that it is a complex one. In recent years, many people have had the opportunity to think more deeply about themselves and understand themselves better than ever before, or at least to see themselves differently. Carlos Chipa's new album is a musical expression inspired by this very "process of coming to terms with one's inner self. The nine piano pieces were created over a period of several weeks, and Chipa describes it as a kind of "conscious reflection," a "zooming in on the object of contemplation, in this case himself. In addition to the themes of impartiality and self-reflection, he took a conceptual approach with this work. He played as quietly as possible. As a result, he discovered a new piano sound world with much less percussive elements and much more string sounds.Sometimes the melody overflows freely, sometimes classical harmony flows, and sometimes melody and chords create a unique ambiguity. Here is a new sound world that gives the listener a quiet sense of immersion.
