Description:
Michael Chance, a countertenor singer, has been one of the leaders of the revival of ancient music in the UK, an important center of the revival of ancient music in the second half of the 20th century, and has produced many masterpieces with his beautiful voice. His son, Alexander Chance's first full-fledged solo album is a collection of high-quality lute songs that showcases his deep love for English music and his outstanding aptitude for it, just as his father did, and that foreshadow a bright future. The album features works by Dowland, a melancholy musician active since the Elizabethan era, and his contemporary Campion, as well as Henry Purcell, the "English Orpheus" of the late 17th century, and a moderate mix of well-known pieces, including French court music that thrilled the English of the time. The music is sometimes serene, sometimes tragic, and at other times tragic and serene. The singer's beautiful voice, which extends to the upper register, is at times serenely mournful and at other times sarcastically sunny, and she sings with a great deal of charm, bringing out the interest of the various pieces.LINN's superb recording technology allows us to clearly hear the exquisite string repellency of duo partner Toby Carr, reminding us of the variety of music that was enjoyed in England more than 400 years ago, with its simple sounds and varied, ever-changing musical styles.
