Each sheet is made from either 304 or 301 austenitic stainless steel. The 304 grade offers excellent general-purpose corrosion resistance with a chromium-nickel composition, while 301 provides slightly higher tensile strength and work-hardening characteristics. Thickness options span 0.02 mm to 0.45 mm (approximately 0.0008 in to 0.018 in), and sheet sizes include 200×300 mm (~7.9×11.8 in), 100×1000 mm (~3.9×39.4 in), 200×1000 mm (~7.9×39.4 in), and 300×1000 mm (~11.8×39.4 in). Choose 304 when corrosion resistance is the primary concern — it performs well in wet, humid, or mildly acidic environments and is the more common general-purpose grade. Choose 301 when you need higher tensile strength or plan to cold-work the sheet into a spring or formed part; 301 work-hardens more rapidly, which can be an advantage in spring-temper applications but requires more force during bending.
For precision shimming between mechanical components, the 0.02 mm – 0.10 mm range is most commonly used. Thinner foils (0.02–0.05 mm) allow fine incremental adjustments, while 0.05–0.10 mm sheets provide a balance of rigidity and flexibility. Stack multiple pieces to reach your target gap dimension — that is why 2, 3, and 5-piece quantity options are available.
Yes. Both 304 and 301 stainless steel foil sheets are compatible with fiber laser cutting, CO₂ laser cutting (with appropriate assist gas), and waterjet cutting. For very thin gauges (0.02–0.05 mm), laser cutting with nitrogen assist gas is recommended to avoid heat discoloration. Hand shears or rotary slitters work well for straight cuts on thicker gauges (0.15 mm and above).
304 stainless steel provides good corrosion resistance in most outdoor and wet environments due to its 18% chromium and 8% nickel content. It is not fully immune — prolonged exposure to chloride-rich environments (such as coastal salt air or pool chemicals) can cause surface pitting over time. 301 offers slightly lower corrosion resistance than 304. For highly corrosive environments, consider 316-grade material instead.
For heat shields in electronics enclosures, the 200×300 mm size is often sufficient for single-board or small chassis applications. For larger panels or continuous strip shielding, the 100×1000 mm or 200×1000 mm options provide more coverage with fewer seams. The 300×1000 mm size suits larger enclosures or when you need to cut multiple pieces from a single blank.
304 stainless steel foil can be TIG welded using ER308L filler wire; use low heat input and back-purge with argon to prevent oxidation on thin gauges. Soldering is possible with stainless-compatible flux and silver-bearing solder, though joint strength will be lower than welding. 301 is also weldable but may require post-weld annealing if the work-hardened condition needs to be restored. Spot welding is feasible on gauges 0.05 mm and above.
