This is the latest release from IN COMMON, a group formed by Walter Smith III (ts), who has always been at the forefront of the scene, and Matthew Stevens (g), a new generation guitarist who is well known for his work with Esperanza Spalding. Joel Ross (vib), Harish Raghavan (b), and Marcus Gilmour (ds), who participated in the debut album, have left the group. All compositions are by Walter & Matthew, except for the Roy Hargrove cover "Roy Allan". The new members are Mika Thomas, a pianist who has played with each of the former IN COMMON members and also played on Harish Raghavan's first album, and Fabian Almazan, who toured with Pat Metheny and played on "Rhizome" with Fabian Almazan and also visited Japan. The band is led by the most important bassist of the moment, Linda Oh (Linda Mae Han Oh), who toured with Pat Metheny and played in Fabian Almazan's "Rhizome," and Nate Smith, who is still at the top of his game on drums.
